The Quartet Gerhard has the main roots in Basel (Rainer Schmidt), Berlin (Eberhard Feltz) and Madrid (Günter Picher). Prize winners of several national and international competitions, they take part in venues such as the Chamber Music Series at the Stadt-Casino Basel (Switzerland), the Bordeaux String Quartet Festival and Radio France Festival Montpellier (France), the Mozartfest Würzburg and Musikfest Heidelberger Frühling (Germany), the Musikamera series in La Fenice (Italy) the 'Palau de la Música' and Chamber Music Series L’Auditori (Barcelona) and the Muzenforum Concerten Bloemendaal (Holland), among others. It is also remarkable their commitment to music of new creation, appearing in important venues such as the CNDM series in Madrid, Nuit de la Création in Aix-en-Provence and in the series of the Arnold Schoenberg Center in Vienna.

Among other long term projects stands out the String Quartet Academy in Vic (Barcelona), founded by Gerard Claret and Cuarteto Casals. Within this academy they are once per year involved as teachers in the task of conveying the beauty of chamber music making.

Their performances have been broadcasted by Catalunya Radio and RNE (Spain), NDR and SWR (Germany) on a regular basis.

Among their discography we can find the CD-Album ‘Portrait’, and an acclaimed by the critics release with music by Kurtág, Schumann and Berg under the prestigious label of Harmonia Mundi International.

Further engagements include a residency in Villa Musica Rheinland-Pfalz, also a residency in the world-reknowned ‘Palau de la Música’ in Barcelona, and their participation in the String Quartet Biennale Amster.

CARLES MARIGÓ • Improvisation Professor

Carles Marigó is a multi-faceted musician. His interests have let him to work as a performer, composer, arranger and musical educator on projects involving classical music, jazz, funk, traditional music, painting and theatre, always concerned with performance, creativity and musical improvisation.

Carles has got classical piano degrees at the ESMuC (Catalonia College of Music) and the Tchaikovsky Moscow Conservatory) both with Honours. Moreover, he has also been given training in jazz and improvisation in classical music from musicians like Xavier Dotras, Albert Bover, Ignasi Terraza, Juan de la Rubia and Emilio Molina. In 2013, Carles joined the team of teachers at the IEM (Institute of Musical Education). Run by Emilio Molina. The IEM is based on improvisation as a teaching system.

Carles has published "Moments" with Seed Music Records - prize of the year. And he will realise a new Cd along with jazz pianist and improviser Marco Mezquida.

Currently, Carles combines his busy scheldule performances with teaching. He is teacher of improvisation and ear training both at the Liceu Music Conservatory and the ESMuC.
